Yero = corrugated steel
Since the outbreak of the Energy Wars there arose a need for a new breed of weapons. The result was birth of the fighting behemoths known as mobile suits. War machines that were more mobile than infantry and aircraft but stronger than a tank and can carry enough weapons to level a city. Obviously the Republic of Philippines was incapable of wielding such sophisticated machines of war as lack of funds and technology has always been the plague of third world armed forces since the start of the modern age of warfare. However being caught between a rock and a hard place due to her proximity to the unexplored gas fields of the south china sea and the deuterium deposits of the Pacific the newly instituted military government was forced to improvise by refurbishing old model suits such as the OZ09- Leo and use of guerrilla tactics.
Thankfully an unsuspecting source of hope was found to aid the ailing last ditch guerrilla resistance. After decades of being a dump site for the World's toxic, chemical and who knows what waste of countries like Japan and the USA a new nearly indestructible alloy was found festering in the dump sites of Payatas. Dubbed Yeronium by the country's scientists the alloy was formed from locally abundant corrugated steel called yero reacting with the chemical cocktail of decades old, then melting and fusing with the myriad of materials thrown in the dump. It proved to be resistant to almost all known weaponry and can even bear the brunt of even the strongest of mobile suit beam weapons. Thus the ASERO project was commenced. Due to lack of proper resources and time the project team improvised to hitherto unprecedented levels and churned out the last chance of the Philippines in the worldwide conflict, the first locally designed and manufactured mobilesuit, the RPMF-Y059 Gundam Double Yero.
Built with the very materials found in the legendary dump it was a marvel of grassroots engineering. It carries armaments that may seem trivial to the modern armies it faces but when coupled with its new alloy and guerrilla support tactics, it proves to be a deadly adversary. This was proven during its first encounter in the battle of Pinatubo. Using its anti -armor Gatling gun at midrange it mows down heavy vehicles with ease while its assault pistol and dual purpose sonic yeronium shovel (used for digging ditches for the Armed forces of the Philippines as well as a meele weapon) does wonders at close range against mobile suits like the UFS-098 "Shrike" whose u-carbon armor was no match for the digging implement imbued with yeronium. Powered by a methane reaction generator designed by the engineers of the Jeepney transportation empire SARAO it boasts nearly unlimited operation time. The cockpit while cramped provides a easy to use control system and computer support provided by 3 parallel computing Pentium II CPUs dubbed Tito, Vic and Joey with a stable Windows98 SE OS running the latest interface program Gundam.exe 4.0 written by the top brass of the IT school AMA.
The chosen pilot of the fabled suit is the esteemed veteran of the battle of Taal Lake, Lt. Cmdr Bong Batumbakal of the feared Anino unit. A man of stern and courageous character he proves to be a perfect match to the weapon that may very well be the last chance of the Philippines to emerge from the fires of the widespread conflict.
